With the workshop «Let’s get physical» Hacking Health is inviting doctors, nurses, med-students, designers & developers to learn about basic electronic prototyping. The workshop will be the first of many and is seen as a preparation to following hackathons.

TOPICS

«Digital Love»
Our face gives us subtle clues to our internal emotions. While most of us can easily tell if someone is happy, upset or angry, there are patients who can not read facial expressions. We will build a device to measure facial expressions. Science fiction will come alive in this workshop as we see if we can build a device that can read our emotions. This is a topic not to be missed.

«LED me see your muscles, maybe»
Measuring your muscular activity can be helpful for many reasons ranging from rehabational assistance to improved training sessions for athletes. The workshop will help you build your own musculare activity measurement tool.

«I can't get no saturation»
In this project we will build a heart rate monitor from scratch! We are using exciting infrared technology which is also the foundation for medical blood oxygen level measurements. You will learn about Arduinos, optics, electrical components, signal processing, and a bit of programming.

«Bend it like Beckham»
There is nothing worse for an athlete than to be sidelined by an injury. Both prevention and rehab play important roles. And with current prices of electronics dropping we can now build prevention as well as rehab tools right into our clothes. This topic will focus on a simple idea of angle measurement. The workshop help you build your own angle measurement tool, that you can take and build on top of. The possibilities are endless.

1.30pm - Arduino introduction

Stefan Hermann author of the book Learning Arduino and lecturer on physical interface design at the university of applied sciences Potsdam will give you a basic introduction to basic concepts of electronic prototyping. You also will get your Arduino starter kit for the day.

3.30pm - Coffee break & snacks

4.00pm - Project work 
Upon arrival you can choose a topic to work on during the workshop (see «Topics» above). Our experienced tutors will guide you through the process!
